Curious about the foundational concepts behind Universal Design for Learning (UDL)? Want to discover the potential impact of UDL on assignment accessibility? Interested in seeing a real-world example of UDL in action, especially one honoring the TRC Call to Action?

This webinar highlights the importance of accessible assignment instructions and provides some best practices for enhancing accessibility using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). An example assignment is explored, honouring the TRC Call to Action. Finally, in-class instructions for CLB 2-4 learners are revised for improved accessibility.

In this webinar we will:

• look at the basic principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL),
• cover some best practices for making assignment instructions more accessible using UDL,
• explore an example of assignment instructions which are presented through different modalities. This assignment aims to be a model in honour of the TRC Call to Action sections 62 ii and 63 ii, iii, iv, and
• revise a set of in-class instructions for CLB 2-4 learners for higher accessibility.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Weaver Shaw (she/herself) currently teaches at the University of British Columbia in the Vantage College program as a UDL Faculty Fellow. She has taught EAL in private colleges, LINC, and was a CELPIP test rater. She holds TESL Canada Professional Standard Three Certification, TCPS-2 (Research Ethics) Certification, and currently serves as 1st VP of BC TEAL.
