What is social justice in education and language education? How can plurilingualism drive transformative social justice in language education? What are some practical strategies to address cultural, economic, and political inequities using Nancy Fraser’s framework and tools to create inclusive classrooms, redesign policies, and empower multilingual learners?

The presenter will review the concepts of social justice, plurilingualism, and the connection between them. Using Fraser's social justice model of 3R (recognition, redistribution, and representation) applied to language education, participants will learn strategies as to how plurilingual approaches can help achieve transformative change in the language classroom and beyond.

From this webinar, participants will:

• gain a holistic understanding of social justice in language education,
• have a better understanding of the role of plurilingualism in fostering social justice in language classrooms and beyond, and
• be equipped with strategies to foster recognition, redistribution, and representation in their contexts using plurilingual approaches to help achieve social justice in the cultural, economic, and political domains.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Marina Antony-Newman (she/her) is recent doctoral graduate from the UCL Institute of Education, UK. She has extensive experience in language assessment and TESL and TEFL, both in Canada and Europe. Her research interests include social justice in education, plurilingualism, and language policy. She has published her work in Canadian and international academic journals.
