Are you concerned about copyright in your teaching, but unsure where to start? This 90-minute webinar addresses common copyright issues encountered while teaching in-person and online, and strategies to avoid them. Participants will gain a better understanding of copyright principles and how to reproduce or share textual and multimedia content legally.

Topics to be covered include:

• copyright basics (what it is, what it protects, its duration, who owns it, and what are the rights of a copyright owner),
• determining if permission is required and how to request it,
• key copyright exceptions for education, including fair dealing,
• licences, and
• citing and attribution.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the last 20 minutes of the webinar.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Mélanie Brunet is the Copyright Services Librarian at the University of Ottawa since June 2016. Her main responsibility is copyright education and outreach with faculty, students, and staff. She offers presentations, workshops and consultations on copyright, Creative Commons licences, and open educational resources.
